Beers and Leprechauns

Beers & Leprechauns
This weekend encountered a visit from our mate Woody over from London. A good weekend all in all weather wasnt too bad. Kicked off with a visit to the Guinness factory. Not a bad tour all in all. They have their original lease document for 4 acres, signed for 9,000 years!!! With only 250 years in they still have a while to go :) Highlight of the tour would have to be picking up my certificate to pour a perfect pint of Guinness. This was followed by another visit to the good old porterhouse!!! Featured a great blues/rock band playing plenty of good covers.

The following day (sunday) we went to the National Leprechaun Museum. A great little trip featuring giant sized furniture to make everyone look like leprechauns. Then on the way out they get everyone young and old to do crayon drawings of leprechauns. A surprisingly enjoyable experience! The evening followed a few stay at home beers and a movie.

Monday en-devoured a visit to the Kilmarney Gaol. Closing its doors in 1924, it saw 97 executions, weather by firing squad or hangings. Quite a few of the hangings used to happen right out the front door on the streets, until public executions were banned. Children as young as 5 years old were also imprisoned, mostly for crimes of poverty.

On the way back to the apartment from the gaol, I was taking a photograph of some graffiti when someone approached me and told me of a car park absolutely full of it. Read more »
